Beth should have become the groups Doctor
So today I saw a post about what Beths intended role was that reminded me of a big thought that occurred to me during my last rematch of the first handful of seasons of The Walking Dead.
I dont think it was her intended role, but Beth not becoming the groups doctor was a HUGE missed opportunity. Imagine if in season 2 after her attempted suicide she came out the other side not just wanting to live but wanting to *live*. Wanting to actually do something with her life. So, she approaches her father and asks Hershal to start teaching her medicine.
Come season 3, you could imply during the time skip Hershals been teaching her what he can here and there and when he gets bit in the leg it would be her having her own father's life in her hands. Maybe even have it be her idea to cut the leg off rather than Rick's if you really want to turn the drama to 11. Remember the scene where Carol is practicing C sections on Walkers while Hershal is down just in case? It didnt really amount to much cause Carol end role wasn't a doctor or nurse, but a frontline fighter but imagine if it was poor teenage Beth having to do that and it was just one more cumulative step on her route to being the groups doctor.
Come season 4 you could have had her training under Hershal, and that Doctor S guy during the timeskip and have her starting to get very competent at medicine. Her being on the front lines fighting the plague with her father and Doctor S would have been far more interesting than the stupid bullshit with her stupid dead boyfriend thay took up much of the first half of season 4. Imagine how much more interesting Grady hospital could have been with the interplay between one of the first of the new variety of doctor taught through apprenticeship and practical experience of the new world and the professionally trained relics of the old world still living there! Would add a whole new interesting dynamic and open way more opportunities for Beth to do interesting stuff while there.
Come Alexandris and Beth's medical experience could be yet another factor in Pete going psycho. In addition to Rick cucking him he would also be worried about the hot young new experienced doctor replacing him or at least stripping him of his irreplaceablility. There are so many ways just having Beth's story arc being that of the healer would have enhanced the story. In hindsight it kinda seems like a obvious route for her character.
