I got my windows laptop all the way back in October of 2020. I used it all throughout school, but recently it's been extremely slow and would die super quick. I know, I know, a battery replacement would only be around $100 and so easy I could do it at home, but I don't think that would've solved the performance issues. I gave up on that laptop a while ago.
Anywho, after a month of heavy heavy research into the macbook lineup and such, I decided the best fit for me would be a base model 13" M5 MBA. I have a very powerful PC if I ever need to do heavy tasks, so I wasn't too worried about getting a powerful laptop, but I still didn't want something like the neo.
Here's what I've noticed so far in my like 9ish hours of using this macbook so far:

  1. I heard that some people said the 13" was way too tiny. I did see the laptop in the Apple store a few times before getting it, but I never truly understood how big it felt until I got it myself, and let me tell you, going from that puny windows laptop to THIS is something I can tell will take me a long time to get used to.
  2. This thing is extremely fast. My laptop go takes a full minute or so to even properly boot up chrome, let alone scroll around on google earth (my favorite activity to do. it is pretty intense on the PC so that's why I didn't want the neo). meanwhile this macbook is super snappy and everything is so smooth. I watched an episode of black mirror and it was gorgeous on this laptop.
  3. This is genuinely my first time fully interacting and experiencing macos, and it 100% will take some getting used to. With that said, I think people overestimate the customizability of the windows os. a lot of the things used to customize a windows computer are apps that you have to search pretty hard for. a lot of people dont have time for that. but I've found that on macos, everything seems a lot easier to customize, even if it is 'restricted' in many aspects that windows isn't. Another thing is keyboard shortcuts. I downloaded a pic and set it as a widget with all the new keyboard shortcuts. It almost feels like learning to ride a bike again.
  4. I don't think I'm ever buying a windows laptop again, even after my short time with this laptop. everything just feels so intuitive, artistic, and well thought out. I love it so much, and I love the blue color. I completed my apple ecosystem and I am so glad I did.
