Have gone to an interview that you think you bombed but were offered the job anyway?
I just had an interview and it's a super interesting job. I think I did okay but the guys interviewing didn't give much feedback and it seemed short (\~15 minutes). They were pretty stoic. Hard to read. They said there's a lot of competition (and I believe it since it's a niche job). I'm not feeling confident.
For context: I'm type 1 diabetic and have been for 30 years.
A few days ago, I was working (it's hard physical labor), and my insulin pump infusion kit popped off. I noticed pretty quickly and told a boss, not mine since he was busy but at the same level as my boss, that I had to run home to change it out. He said okay. I returned in an hour and finished my day. If I finish my shift without my pump, I would've been in the hospital, though, I wouldn't have made it that far.
I got a call from my boss today, well, actually a text message. He said he's firing me for taking an unauthorized hour break. I'm going to talk to my boss and the dude I talked to and make sure they know what they're doing; firing an employee for a reasonable medical need. I'm screen capturing everything.
I'm not a perfect employee, I know this, but, he directly referenced this incident in the text. What legal options could I reasonably pursue?
Edit: I forgot to include that I have made complaints to the state department of labor for lunch breaks being given late (that is, longer than 6 hours after the start of the shift) and OSHA complaints for fire safety issues. I also contacted a union to start one but didn't pursue it due to planning on leaving the company soon.
