I Accidentally Sent Money to My Old Inactive GCash Number — Got It back the next day. Here’s Exactly What I Did
So i was sending money to my Gcash thru Paypal and i really didn't check the number that i was sending to and old gcash number ko pala na send. The worst part is, natapon ko na yung simcard ng gcash na yun.
So here’s the exact step-by-step process I did that helped me get my money back the very next day. Note that this will only work if you have a current ACTIVE VERIFIED GCASH NUMBER:
- You have to check or at least know if your old gcash number's name is the same at your current number. If not, then i'm not sure if you can get your money back the same timeline as mine.
- After i realized that i sent the money to my old gcash number, I immediately filed a support ticket on Gcash:
- Open Gcash App
- Right before you put your MPIN, click "Help Center"
- Under Quick Help, click "Transfer funds & services from my old Gcash account"
- A new window will pop out. At the bottom right of the screen, click "Chat with Gigi"
- After sending all the necessary details to Gigi, you'll get a support ticket number.
- Take a screenshot of your support ticket. This will be very important later.
About 30 minutes after filing my support ticket, a representative from Gcash escalation team sent me a message. They are asking for certain documents: A photo of a government issued ID and a selfie with the same ID.
After sending those documents. Go to Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas website and chat with Bob. Explain in details what happened. He's gonna ask for documents to support your claim. Send him the same documents you sent to Gigi (ID & selfie with the ID). Lastly, he's gonna ask for a support ticket from Gcash. After filing, you'll get a support ticket from Bob.
After completing all these steps, I received a message from a different GCash representative saying that Bangko Sentral had already notified them regarding my claim. I just replied "Okay thanks" to that message, acknowledging it. Not even an hour after receiving the message, i already got an email saying that the funds have been transferred already.
Takeaway: I think the most crucial step I took was filing a complaint through Bangko Sentral. It helped speed up the process since they directly notified GCash, which likely pushed the escalation team to prioritize my claim.
