this is my girl Luna. she lost her older brother, Tucker, unexpectedly yesterday. we are devastated beyond measure and in disbelief our sweet boy is gone. how can we best support Luna during this time? they were each other’s yin and yang and she has never known life without him.

this is Tucker. my best boy left this earthly world this morning, just a week shy of his ninth birthday. we noticed he was lethargic after receiving vaccines last week (the vaccines did not cause this!!) and he rapidly declined. first ER visit was Sunday night and he was gone this morning. we opted not to do an autopsy but based on their findings, he had some sort of cancer (likely hemangiosarcoma) that went undetected until it was too late. our vet said that even if caught early, he would’ve had 6 months more max.😞

he was unbelievably hyper given his age and he never slowed down. he loved stealing our babies’ stuffed animals, swimming, playing fetch, and rolling around in the grass. I foolishly thought we would have at least a little more time with him but I guess that wasn’t part of the bigger plan.

I miss him more than I can put into words. Tucker was by my side through my early 20s, when we bounced from apartment to apartment and then made the move back to the Midwest. he was my companion when I was trying to navigate the ups and downs that came with figuring out how to stand on my own two feet for the first time after I graduated college. he was my snuggle bud when my dad passed away. he was my rock and he is gone and I can only hold onto the hope that one day we will meet again. 🤍

Calling my vet as soon as they open!!

9 year old Golden had lepto and flu vaccines Tuesday evening and it’s now Saturday morning and he still seems sluggish. Eating and drinking normally (although having to entice him to eat by sprinkling cheese in his food) but is overall slow to get around and just not acting his normal hyper self.

What else could it be if this isn’t normal? Although he’s 9 he has not shown any signs of slowing down at all so this is out of the ordinary for him.

😞
