New roof side pieces, seal the exposed wood?

Title is the TLDR. I've come across some conflicting information regarding this.

I have a rockwood HW296 highwall, both roof side pieces went south. While I would have preferred to rebuild new pieces with anything but that freaking chip board, I'm on a time crunch so I just ordered new ones from Forest River. (wasn't as bad as I thought. 2 16' sides, freight delivered to my house for $500)

Thoughts on getting some water proof primer or something for the exposed edge of the particle board, or just rebuild the top with the normal materials/sealants that are used in construction/maintenance. I've read some folks do, some don't for concern of if moisture does get in, it's trapped.
