Long story short: our water heater in our laundry room burst at the pipe in the middle of the night and was flowing for hours while we slept. Woke up to drenched carpets all through the house, and standing water in tiled laundry room.

The room also contained our cat’s 2 litter boxes and of course the water picked up a bunch of cat litter and feces that spread throughout the house. The restoration company says it’s considered a level 3 contamination hazard and a bunch of drywall and all of the carpet/tile in our house will need to be replaced. Tile HAS to be removed to get to part of the walls in the kitchen and laundry room

Now the insurance adjuster is telling the restoration company they won’t cover the cost of replacing the tile despite the fact that there’s likely trapped wet cat feces under it all. I plan on calling our insurance company tomorrow and having a word with them, but I want to get advice on what verbiage I should use with them.

What should I do or say in this situation? We are first time homeowners, and our insurance is through State Farm.

Thanks a bunch in advance!
