I currently own a 2010 Honda Civic that has been giving me a lot of issues lately. Nothing major in terms of engine problems but little things that has cost me about ~$1200 this year alone not including gas. Now I need to replace my ac compressor which will run me about another $900.

I commute 40 miles a day, to work and back, for 5 days a week and go out at least once per weekend. This totals out to roughly $300 a month on gas alone.

I think it is time to get something newer and specifically I’ve been thinking of switching over to EV to avoid having to worry about oil changes, gas prices (currently $5.70/gal), smog checks, and other engine related issues you get from a 16 year old car. It’s not a decision based on saving money but rather preventing additional stress and time from having to be at a shop every 2-3 months. I’m fine with tire maintenance as it’s quick and worry free at this place I go to. I’ve been looking into a used 2023 Mach E Premium as it fits my monthly budget for car payment and insurance.

I currently live in an apartment complex in the Bay Area (California)with no chargers in the parking lot and no outlets to connect a mobile charger. However, the parking lot I leave my car at each morning for work just installed Tesla destination chargers(12kW max) at $0.45/kWh. I usually leave my car there for 8 hours a day while I’m working. Am I crazy for thinking this could work as a plan for charging a daily commuter?

I’m new to EV charging so any feedback on my situation would be highly appreciated!
