2013 Honda Pilot V6-3471 SOHC

My cv axle is leaking fluid/grease, and the shop recommended I replace the axle. The part itself is $280, labor/shipping/sales tax brought the quote up to over $500. There isn’t any shaking or clicking so far so they said it should be fine to drive for now. I drive about 50-60 miles per week to class.

I’m not sure if this part is worth replacing (or when to replace it) since it has such high mileage (250,000+), has a hard time shifting, and the transmission slips every once in a while. The mpg has also decreased from 22 to about 12 in the past month alone. I’m probably the 4th owner of this car so I don’t know much about the maintenance other than I get routine oil changes/ break checks and I’ve replaced the battery, timing belt at 213000, and spark plugs at 240000.

Thoughts/ how serious is this?
