I have not much clue what I am doing but my current drive is a WD Green SATA SSD that’s basically dead. Read speeds down to \~32 KB/s. Need to replace ASAP before I lose everything.

Specs:

CPU: Intel i7-9700F
RAM: 32GB DDR4 @ 2133MHz
GPU: GTX 1660 Super
Motherboard: MSI B365M Mortar

Think the 32GB RAM has been masking how bad the SSD has gotten over time, only really noticed once it got this bad.

Use case: Mainly Ableton (music production), light gaming. Graphics card I don’t mind as I only really play HOI4 and Postal 2 lol.

Future plans: Ryzen 7 7700 + B650 within a year. Keeping the GPU.

Questions:
Is 2TB the right size or overkill?

Gen 3 vs Gen 4, worth paying for Gen 4 even though I’m Gen 3 limited now since I’ll be on Gen 4 in \~12 months?

Specific drive recommendations or ones to avoid?

Best UK retailers right now? (Scan, Overclockers, CCL, Amazon, etc.)

SSD prices look mental, new normal or worth holding off?

Also very angry that I found this out as SSD prices are so high. Cheers.
