So I'm pretty novice when it comes to appliance repair, so forgive me if I'm being obviously wrong. I have a friend who handed this precision scale off to me. Previously, I believe something in the wall adapter for the scale broke, so I got a new one with the same specs and spliced the wires together (the unit takes some proprietary input plug). The scale worked a couple times for a very short time, but when my friend tried using it, it didn't turn on. I checked the cable and I think the new adapter broke as well.

I'm thinking somethig shorted inside and drew a lot of current, breaking the adapter, maybe?

I'm looking at the board and I can't see anything obviously wrong. Maybe some orange-ish stuff around the input to the board (solder flux?). The resistance between the different prongs was around 40k-60k ohms... Is that expected?

Do y'all have any ideas or things you'd look at? Thanks in advance for any advice!
