I (17F) and my coworker 22(M) have worked together on and off since I was 15 and he was 20. Prior to this he has never done anything weird to me. The other day we were busy and I jokingly asked him to hang the food tickets up instead of crumbling them up and throwing them in the bin because the other servers were having trouble reading them. He freaked out and started slamming stuff and saying things like “she thinks she’s so fucking cute. “ He angrily stormed out of the resturant and said he was quitting. My manager stopped him outside and told him to just come back in the morning. The next day he won’t even look at me, he would fully turn his head anytime I would come near the kitchen. The next day he asked my coworker if I worked because he wanted to talk to me. I ended up coming in the next day and had a conversation with him. I just wanted to clear things up and let him know I wasn’t trying to be rude or anything, the other servers just couldn’t read what was on their ticket. Again, he wouldn’t look me in the eyes. Then he told me that he “couldn’t get my face out of my head.” it made me extremely uncomfortable, but i just kept the conversation going because I didn’t want to acknowledge that. At the end of the conversation he said “maybe i’ll be able to look at you tomorrow.” I was so weirded out and I told my manager and she was like “yeah that’s really weird.” The next day comes and again he won’t look me in the eyes, which I was fine with tbh because I was weirded out by what he said the day before. At like 6 o clock he asked to see my nails and told me they looked cute. Then he said “oh by the way I have a gift for you.” I was freaking out like what do u mean and that I didn’t want a gift. and he said “don’t think it’s because we fought it was actually a christmas gift, but you kind of stopped talking to me.” mind you i stopped talking to him cause I had a feeling he was a little creepy. he told me he’d wait until the end of the shift to give it to me. the rest of the shift i was so anxious and freaking out and then one of the other cooks came out and said that he was outside with my gift. I asked what it was and he said “it’s a giant ass teddy bear.” I honestly thought he was messing with me because what the hell. the other cook told him to go outside to give it to me so I wasn’t embarassed and i almost started sobbing because I didn’t go out want to go out there. I went out and he was holding a teddy bear that was OVER HALF MY SIZE. It was probably like a 4 ft tall teddy bear. I kept trying to not accept it and he just kept saying things like “i spent almost $100 on this” and how “it’s a gift” and i kept telling him no and that’d i’d give him money for it because I DIDNT WANT IT. eventually I gave up and was like “fine will you put it in my car then.” and he said “i wanna see you holding it first.” so i held it and felt so disgusted. he said “awwww, it’s almost as big as you” which made me even more disgusted. he put it in my car and i went back inside sobbing to my manager saying how uncomfortable it made me feel. then she joked. another side detail that is crazy is that HE UNSTUFFED THE BEAR SHOVED IT IN HIS BACKPACK AND RESTUFFED IT IN THE BREAKROOM. it’s not relevant but i feel like it’s a creepy detail to add. the next few days I refuse to look at him or talk to him, and he kept making weird comments to me like saying i was staring at him. i mentioned how uncomfortable it made me feel to my gm and all she said was “well he doesn’t have a father figure.” the next week or two was miserable and i was so uncomfortable around him. eventually he got fired for trying to fight one of our other cooks. (side note he tried to rip his shirt off on the line in a fit of rage) and got fired. I don’t have to deal with him more, but I am still upset that the managers acted like it wasn’t a big deal. so am i overreacting for still being upset even though he’s fired?
