Kegerator too cold

I bought a used Newair kegerator. I didn't measure it but pretty sure the serial I googled the first time I took a look at this indicated it was the 5.8cu ft one. Basically the first result that pops up on amazon, not that means anything.

It runs too cold. I ran it with my water keg for carbonating and some spare soda cans and it froze both over the course of a weekend. I left it at the temp of 42 it defaults to when first plugged in, and after hearing cans freezing I tried upping the temp and it never settled down.

I unplugged it and let everything thaw and started it back up with an independent thermometer inside and it was reading 32 when set to 42.

I searched model number and can honestly not find Newair replacement parts for a kegerator; I think the issue is the internal sensor isn't reading the temp inside correctly so it's overworking and freezing. I did find what looks like a small white capsule probe behind a plastic vent inside, and looking for general kegerator replacement parts looks an awful lot like what I think is the problem.(Thermister or Thermostat?)

Are parts going to generally be interchangeable? Is that the first step? Thanks for the guidance on next steps.
