I live in southern Orange County and love running our local hills. I have a route mapped out that is roughly 100 miles and it starts at the beach, you climb a 4k foot mountain, and then run back to the beach. Most of the trail is on a bike path or hiking trails.

If I wanted to organize this, where do you start?

I’ve driven past this course 50+ times going to Mammoth. Decided to play it Friday at noon with my brother before we went riding for the weekend.

First impression, practice facility is poor and the pro shop was tiny. Good bar and restaurant though with cheap food. Thought it was going to be similar to a David L Baker in OC or Costa Mesa GC.

After playing 18, it became one of my favorite courses ever. The greens roll super pure and fast. Fairways and rough around the greens were cut perfectly. Sand bunkers were soft and well raked. Tee boxes were flat for the most part. Crazy green angulations and bunker layouts that I rarely see. Fun dog leg lefts and rights with plenty of fairway space to get excited about hitting the shot. Most par 3s were over 160 yards.

My brother and I both thought to ourselves that we would be stoked to have this as our local course. I could play it 1,000 times and not get bored by going back and forth between white and black tees.

Shoutout to Bishop GC. Really enjoyed my round and was impressed by the conditions and layout/creativity of the green complexes.
