I’m redesigning the X carriage on a QIDI X-Smart V1 (Replicator-style dual rod system) and want to adapt it to support a Mini Stealthburner (MiniSB) or possibly a full Stealthburner.
Current setup:
- Two horizontal Ø8 mm smooth rods
- ~60 mm center-to-center spacing
- LM8SUU bearings (LM8UU compatible)
- Stock carriage is a single plastic part that integrates the bearing housings and hotend mount
- Rods pass directly through the carriage (no front-mounted plate)
I’m planning to completely replace the stock carriage with a new design that:
- Keeps the dual-rod system (not converting to rails)
- Uses LM8UU or LM8LUU bearings
- Adds a rigid front mounting face for MiniSB or Stealthburner
- Supports a Phaetus Dragonfly BMS hotend
If anyone knows of similar rod-based carriage designs, or has thoughts on whether MiniSB is a much better target than full Stealthburner for this, I’d really appreciate the input.
I’m not trying to mount SB onto the existing carriage — the goal is to design a new carriage from scratch that works with this rod system but uses a more modern toolhead.
Photos of the current X carriage / motion setup are attached for reference.
Any advice or pointers would be appreciated.
