Hey all!

Quick question. My pre-op guide to post-op recovery mentions that I should start getting in the habit of periodically checking my glucose levels. I am not diabetic, or prediabetic. As crazy as it sounds my labs(aside from Lipid Panel) are all excellent. I have never watched my blood sugar because sugar is not something I actually enjoy.

So, I am very confused and my bariatric team has tried to explain it to me, but I want to hear from other patients.

Here is my confusion. This sounds like they are going to want me to monitor my glucose levels forever. I know that the whole dumping syndrome can cause a surge of insulin then a crash. Is this why they are recommending getting used to knowing what my blood sugar is? Sounds like all the work of diabetes without diabetes. I know what causes dumping syndrome and eating right can prevent it most of the times. I just need to hear from real world patients why a glucose monitor might be something used practically every day. Someone help explain.
