Month 3 of surf fishing.
After hours and hours of walking the beaches for miles throwing c-rigs, lures, and swim baits, my body started telling me to take it easier.
So of course being the stubborn angler I am, I decided to learn how to bait and wait.
Got my sand spike, cheapo poles and reels spooled up with straight 20lb mono, some octopus hooks, pyramid sinkers, frozen squid, watched and few videos on how to tie up high-low rigs, pre tied leaders and I was ready to go!
What I did my last session and I plan to do when I’m able to put in a few hours of fishing is bomb out my cast as far as I can for my bait/wait set up and finesse fish the waters closer to shore. That way I’m able to cover as much water as possible (at least that’s my excuse to get some more fishing in).
Notes from lessons learned:
- When mussels are easily [safely] accessible, use them. It’s FREE.99!!
- Elastic thread is not an option. I will forever keep some in my arsenal.
- YFC hit your bait like a freight train, I’m convinced they’re some of the most aggressive fish in our waters
- You can never have too many pre tied leaders
Leopard shark, Stingray, Bat Ray, Yellowfin Croaker, Calico Bass, Barred Surfperch and Black Surfperch were all the species I have caught so far in Malibu
Thank you all for reading! Tight lines!!🤙🏽
