As stated in the subject, I have a 3080 10GB (INNO3D TWIN X2 OC). I saw a 5070 12GB (MSI Shadow 2X OC) and think that I want it, but I still want educated opinions about this "upgrade" - if it is one.
Here's a list of my arguments for the "upgrade":
1. Lower TDP. My 3080 is at 85% power limit, 1800 MHz at 850 mV, yada yada. My gaming pull is approximately 260-280 watts. The RTX 5070 is 250W TDP maximum. Lower = better.
2. Relatively affordable. The sale of my 3080 will get me back half of the 5070 purchase.
3. Still an upgrade on the VRAM department. 12 > 10.
Here's a list of my arguments against the "upgrade":
1. Not a real upgrade. I've been looking everywhere saying there isn't much of a difference in performance between the 3080 and the 5070. That if I really wanted to, I needed a 5070 Ti.
2. The 9070 XT exists. I won't get too deeply into this, as this is the Nvidia subreddit after all.
3. Above MSRP pricing. The MSI Shadow 2X OC costs 38,950 Philippine Pesos plus s&h. That's about $640 (US).
4. My monitor is only 1080p, 180hz (MSI G255F).
Here's a list of unknowns (to me):
1. Will it improve my VR frame rate? I use a Pico 4 at 100% render scale via Virtual Desktop to play VRChat. My processor is a Ryzen 5 5600.
2. Is 280 watts really that different from 200 to 230 watts (as seen on benchmarks)?
