Someone suggested I try recreating the Shipment map from Call of Duty using my container terrain, so I figured why not.

Everything here is 3D printed, with a mix of single containers and stackable pieces. A few of them have opening doors which adds a bit more interaction when playing.

The layout was surprisingly easy to match and it turns into a really fun board.

This is made up of a small selection of parts of a larger terrain set I’ve been working on, still building it out at the moment. Anyone interested can follow the project at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/wargamegeeks/container-city-3d-printable-terrain-for-skirmish-games/

Would love any feedback, or suggestions for other maps that might work in this style.

I’ve been working on a modular container terrain set and had enough pieces printed to try something a bit different.

So I recreated Shipment from Call of Duty.

Everything here is 3D printed, with a mix of single containers and stackable pieces. A few of them have working/opening doors which actually adds a nice bit of interaction on the table.

The layout was surprisingly easy to match and it ended up being a really fun, chaotic board to play on.

Photos show the layout and some close-ups of the terrain.

Would love any feedback on the terrain or ideas for other maps that might translate well to tabletop.

Finally got the first proper game in using the container terrain I’ve been working on.

Up until now it’s mostly been test layouts and painting, so this was the first time it’s actually been used in a real game. Wanted to see if the walkways, elevation, and spacing would hold up once models were moving around properly.

It ended up creating some really nice moments:

Fights breaking out over the bridges

Models contesting the high ground while others moved underneath

Enough cover to matter without completely blocking the board

The different levels worked well without feeling too cramped, which was something I was a bit concerned about going in.

Still very much a work in progress, but it’s starting to feel like a proper playable setup rather than just a collection of pieces.

Started getting some paint onto these container terrain prints I’ve been working on.

This is just a first pass to block in some colour and add a bit of light weathering to break up the surfaces. Kept it fairly simple so it’s something I can repeat easily across a full board.

Already feels a lot better than bare plastic, and the printed texture is picking up the paint quite nicely on the panels and edges.

Planning to take it a bit further next with some sponge chipping, maybe some graffiti, posters, and a bit more grime to give it more character.

Still very much a WIP, but starting to come together.

Hey all,

I’ve been working on a modular container-based terrain system and wanted to share a small test build from it.

This has mainly been a project focused on making terrain that’s straightforward to print on FDM machines and holds up well on the table. A lot of the design decisions have been around reducing supports, keeping parts sturdy, and making sure everything fits together cleanly.

The setup is based around shipping containers, walkways, and small structures that can be stacked and rearranged to create different layouts.

A few things I’ve been aiming for:

  • Minimal or no supports where possible
  • Clean prints without awkward overhangs
  • Durable pieces that don’t feel fragile during games
  • Modular parts that can scale into larger boards

I’ve put together a small test build called Checkpoint Alpha and made it available for free so people can try printing it and see how it goes on their setup.

Would be really interested to hear how others approach designing or printing terrain like this, or anything you think works particularly well for FDM terrain
