Hello everyone. I am currently on year five of my five year contract as an AirWing marine working as a ground support equipment technician. I’m interested in moving to Dallas and attending the USAA accelerated A&P school and getting a job around Dallas Fort Worth working on planes. From what I understand, most major airlines do not like hiring fresh zero experience A&P grads. I may not have experience working directly on aircraft, but I do however have multiple years of experience working on the flight line. I am accustomed to flight line etiquette, safety, and have a decent knowledge of mechanics from my GSE MOS. What I’m wondering is if that will give me a real leg up in the hiring process for a major airline? or does my marine GSE AirWing experience not do much for me and basically put me in the same boat as a 19 year old fresh out of A&P school right after highschool?
