My OEM Scorpio Pirelli tires (22" wheel) are getting close to end of life after 20K Miles. I am interested in replacing them with Michelin Defender tires. Range on Highway is important to me as once a month I make a trip that requires ~ 88% of my large battery and I appreciate not to have to stop to recharge. I am looking at the info on Riviantrackr https://riviantrackr.com/rivian-tire-guide/?vehicle=R1&brand=Michelin and I notice that the Michelin 275/60R20 is coming more efficient than the 275/50R22 (2.11 miles/kwh vs 2.01 miles/kwh). The sample size for the 275/60R20 is limited to 6 cars and there are 20 data points for the 275/50R22. The OEM Pirelli 275/50R22 comes at 2.04 miles/kwh according to Riviantrackr. Therefore according to this dataset, the Michelin tire (22 inches wheel) has a reduced range of 1.5% compared to the Pirelli of the same size but on a limited data set the Michelin 275/60R20 would deliver 3% more range than the OEM 22 inches Pirelli.

Given the low to mid size sample size, this daya might not be statistically representative with differences coming from other factors like driving style or number of motors. Therefore

  1. I am interested in actual data from drivers with 22 inches wheels who moved from OEM Pirelli to Michelin regarding the evolution in % of the miles per kwh between the 2 tires.

  2. Is higher range for the Michelin 275/60R20 than Michelin 275/50R22 making sense? is it due to higher load index and higher weight of 275/50R22? (Difference in weight shouldn't make much difference when cruising at a steady speed). Typically firmer tire compounds are less efficient but last longer; therefore is it possible that the Michelin 275/60R20 outperform the OEM Pirelli 275/50R22 in miles per kwh while carrying a 70,000 miles warranty?

Thank you for the help

Note: I currently stand at a 2.88 miles/kwh average over 20K miles for a R1T two motors with roughly 50% city and 50% highway at 65 miles per hour ie 41% higher than the average from Riviantrackr for the Pirelli 275/50R22 . Therefore do the numbers from Riviantrackr match your own experience?
