Hi all,

I recently bought a LENOVO Yoga 7 14" 2 in 1 Laptop, CoPilot+ PC (Windows) directly from Lenovo with custom specs:

  • AMD Ryzen 7 AI
  • 32GB RAM
  • 1TB SSD

I was really happy with the specs and was told (by staff at a reputable laptop store) that it should be fine for light gaming and video editing.

However, once I started using it, I noticed the laptop heats up and the fans kick in very quickly, even when I’ve just logged in and only have a browser open with a few non‑video tabs. This happens across Chrome and Edge. Tab loading initially felt quite slow too, though removing some bloatware helped with that part.

I contacted Lenovo Repairs about the heating/fan issue, and they told me the laptop is “working as intended” and that it just doesn’t meet my benchmarks. They even suggested that “opening a browser” isn’t a simple task, which honestly felt a bit dismissive.

What confuses me is that:

  • My work ThinkPad (with similar or worse specs) handles browsers and multitasking just fine.
  • My 6‑year‑old Dell Inspiron 14 (2‑in‑1, slim, worse specs) only gets warm and loud when I’m actually pushing it.

This Yoga, on the other hand, warms up almost immediately (not overheating, but warm enough to notice and even smell the metal slightly).

My friends suggested it might be Windows or Lenovo bloatware, so I removed as much as I could (especially AI-related stuff), but the behaviour is still the same. At this point I’m wondering if there’s something wrong with the fans or thermals, as I’ve unfortunately received a faulty laptop before.

I’ve seen good reviews for this model online and very few complaints about heat (apart from some mentions when charging), so I’m unsure if this is genuinely expected behaviour or a sign I should return it, especially since Lenovo Repairs don’t want to investigate further.

Has anyone here used this model long-term? Is frequent heating and fan noise during basic browser use actually normal for this laptop?

I was really excited about it and spent months researching - it's also my first time customising a laptop - so I’m quite sad at the thought of returning it and starting over.

Tl;dr: Lenovo Yoga 7 14" heats up and fans turn on during normal browser use. Lenovo says it’s “working as intended.” Is this normal behaviour or a legit issue?

(Had some Copilot help to make this less rant-y)

Edit: bruh, I forgot to mention - I bought it on sale but at some point this laptop with these specs was retailing on the Lenovo website for £1400/$1900, which makes it feel all the more crazy :/
