How do I make better playpieces with two parts that open up?

Hey there, I am currently working on my finals (product design) and I'm making a board game! I have all the rules and know what parts I need and the rough design. We had a short presentation in class today where we peer reviewed eachothers projects currents status. The main playpieces of my game are hexagons that are made of two parts and close up with a simple "put the top over the bottom half and it friction fits" bc my prototypes are made with a 3D printer. I also want the finished pieces to be 3D printed but with resin and not filament as it is rn.

The boxes I made are stackable (that is important!) and need some space for a piece you put in the top half (also important!) and they reveal the items you collect when you pull on the top half and the item is part of the bottom half so they can not be interchanged.

The feedback consisted of "you can make it simpler by just turning it around and the item is on the bottom" and "you can use magnets to hold it in place instead of friction fits bc when you play a lot with it it probably won't hold up anymore after some time" (I actually don't know if that's true tbh)

So here's my problem:

I don't want to add extra parts (so no magnets) and when the items just lays at the bottom of the box when you turn it around (you can see the current version of the bottom half turned around in the front right of the picture) you could feel the item (bc it's gonna be 3D and not just a picture) and it takes away the surprise it needs (I had a version with that prior and didn't like it)

I now feel doubted in my project, it took me 6 versions to get to this point and I don't have much time left.

I thought of maybe adding a hinge but that is also prone to break.

Is there a way to redesign these boxes to maintain the cleaner look it has and it still being able to open up with no extra parts needed (e.g. magnets) and being 3D printed?

Or should I just leave as is and don't give a damn what the others and my teacher thinks?
