A buddy in my pod gifted me [[Doomsday Excruciator]] after I got hyped about the Pro Tour result and I'm trying to build the most fun home for it. I landed on [[Bane, Lord of Darkness]] because it gives me access to Esper and his "creatures dying equals value" seems like a very cool engine.
The plan is to stay alive and accumulate value through Bane and aristocrats pieces then hard-cast Excruciator and win the following turns with Lab Maniac or Jace.
I know I will usually die the turns after Excruciator resolves and that's fine. It's a slow combo at a casual-leaning pod and I'm just trying to land the win before the table cleans me up.
When I goldfish the deck feels clunky. I think my black source isn't enough to reliably hard-cast Excruciator (six black is brutal). Maybe the wheel package is too much. And I'm not sure if I should lean harder into the aristocrats engine from the commander or go heavier on tutors to find the combo faster.

Two real questions for the sub. First, has anyone else built around Excruciator since the PT, and what shell did you land on? Second, is there a better commander I should be considering for this kill? I picked Bane partly because he's underplayed on EDHREC and I wanted a unique brew, but I'm not married to him the whole goal is to win with the demon.
