Happy Mother’s Day…
I wish I could tell you this. I wish the bridge you burnt wasn’t still so actively ablaze and I could wish you the best day, for you and that little one of yours. While I was yours I truly believed I would be beside you, not just to celebrate this one, but every Mother’s Day that would come. That isn’t what you wanted though. And truthfully, even if I’m working through a lot of anger towards you about that, I’d never take these well wishes from you. The way you showed up as a mom was one of the first reasons I ever fell for you, and a reason I hold onto the love still even as it fades to just a memory I’ll carry.
To your mother too, even with your struggles. She was the first, besides mine, who had ever opened her arms so fully to me. Even if it wasn’t forever like we had talked about, it was wonderful to have another I called “Mom”.
So tonight, today, I won’t be angry. I’ll just be grateful for the time we had as our little family.
