Any company cares about Industrial design creatives?
Okay this has been bugging me for months so I'm just gonna ask.
Where are you guys posting or organizing your work these days? I feel like majority of the online platforms only care about 2D, graphic, ui, illustration or photography field.
Behance was fine I guess but it's so clearly dominated graphic designers and commercial photographers. My renders look weird next to brand identity projects and the layout doesn't really know what to do with process shots or sketches. Instagram is whatever, it works for a quick sketch dump but the compression kills renders and good luck finding anything you posted six months ago. Pinterest is where my work ends up after other people scrape it, never where I post first. Coroflot feels like it's stuck in 2000s. And then there's the "just build a personal site" route which yeah, I did that, took forever, and now I have to maintain the thing. So far Fromfolio is the closest one, but they are new.
Meanwhile UI designers have Figma Community, illustrators have Dribbble, photographers have like five solid options. And we're over here Frankensteining together an IG grid, a Behance that no recruiter checks, a personal site, and a PDF portfolio for actual job apps.
Figma is a special case, especially since they are providing many solutions under one umbrella. I do understand the fundamental creative process of ID, which relies heavily on 3D (nurb modeling, rendering, engineering, physical parts) but still.. there is no new modern solution of us i think.
What do you think, is there a need for a dedicated industrial design platform/software to organize, publish, market industrial designers' works?
An SM platform for creatives in industry? Where you can find designers, cas modelers, CMF designers, visu artists that are specialized in Industrial, Transportation or Fashion design?
