I’m looking for some layout advice for my living room. I’m planning on replacing my furniture, so I’m open to a total overhaul. The room has a large fireplace with built-in shelves on either side, which is creating a bit of a flow and viewing-angle nightmare.
The Space & Challenges:
• The Fireplace: It’s quite tall (comes up to my shoulders, and I’m 5’2”).
• The TV Problem: I currently have an 80-inch TV. Putting it above the fireplace makes the viewing angle way too high and uncomfortable.
• The Flow: I initially thought about putting a sofa directly in front of the fireplace with two armchairs by the window, but I’m worried it will completely close off the room.
Current Setup:
Right now, I have the sofa against the window and the TV on a side wall. However, having the TV there feels "clunky" and cluttered next to the existing shelving and fireplace unit.
Proposed Idea (Seeking Feedback):
I’m considering mounting the TV on the side wall with a slim wood ledge for a soundbar and using a "Gallery/Frame" style cover so it looks like art when off. To balance this, I’d switch to a sectional sofa positioned opposite that wall.
I’d love your input on:
Does the sectional plan sound like it would open the space up, or will it feel cramped?
How would you handle an 80-inch TV in a room where the fireplace is the main focal point but is too high to mount above?
Are there any other layout "hacks" for a bright, modern-vintage aesthetic that doesn't make the TV feel like an eyesore next to built-ins?
