Hello all,

I’m currently looking at milling some 7x13 stair treads out of white oak and was wondering the best way of cutting my logs. Should I

Box heart? (Potential for cracks?)

Box heart with underside relief cut to the pith? (Potential for cupping?)

Cut above and below the pith? (Potential for cupping?)

The treads will be used outdoors over a rock base as the entry to a timber frame pavilion.
