My baby is now 15 months and I'm starting to feel like an outlier for still needing to soothe him to sleep. I'm currently weaning and trying to teach him to fall asleep without nursing to sleep. I'm trying to add some extra sleep associations in hopes that rocking or reading or snuggling will get him sleep.

How long is it normal to need to rock, walk or read him to sleep though? Will he reach an age where he can just lay down and fall asleep on his own? And is that age soon or is it like age 2 or 3 or later? Everyone I've talked to pretty much just says I need to let him cry it out until he learns to sleep on his own (which I obviously don't plan to do). But I just don't know what a bedtime routine looks like for a kid this age or older once they aren't nursing to sleep anymore and also aren't sleeping in their own room alone. We bed share and really enjoy it. I've also been told by a lot of my family that I'll regret that because my kid will never want to sleep in his own bed when he's older but that's another story.

Just curious what toddler sleep is supposed to look like after weaning and without ever sleep training.
