System is D&D 5e

No matter how much xp I award my PC, they never get a level up button. The only way to change the character level is to manually change it. Shouldn't a button appear at the top of the character sheet for the player who owns the character that they can click on to open the level up wizard? Anyone know what the issue is here? Am I just dumb and missing something simple? Thanks.
