What's life been like in Syria since the overthrow of Assad?

I have to admit, I never thought this would happen, I thought Assad had basically won and then December 2024 happened and turned everything I thought I knew about this conflict upside-down. The official narrative is that the war is over, but there have been skirmishes after the war, so I want to know how the country is rebuilding after the 14 year conflict. On the one hand, Assad was a brutal tyrant and I'm happy for Syrians that you were able to overthrow him. On the other hand, I don't know what to make of Jolani yet. So how have things been going in Syria over the past year and a half? Someday I'd love to visit Damascus if Syria is stable.

Why is North Korea especially totalitarian even compared to other Marxist-Leninist states?

You can't say "it's because U.S. propaganda paints it that way because it wants minerals." The U.S. has a greater vested interest in regime change in Cuba, yet Cuba is considered relatively moderate as far as Marxist-Leninist states usually go (though still totalitarian, don't get me wrong) and has recently even opened up to LGBT people. North Korea is a dynastic and extremely authoritarian state even in comparison to other Marxist-Leninist states in history. I support lifting the Cuba embargo but would be wary of lifting sanctions on North Korea. So why is North Korea uniquely totalitarian? I'm told it has to do with the Korean War so let's start there.

If the Supreme Court nukes the VRA, can we salvage black majority districts in southern states with Democrat governors?

I've seen maps of people saying how the dems could lose around a dozen seats if the supreme court wipes out black political representation in the south. These maps show North Carolina also losing their black majority seats, even though North Carolina has a democrat governor. It's also within the realm of possibility that Georgia could elect a democrat governor either now or in the future. Can we at least salvage black majority districts in those states?
