I recently traded my old burgundy leather GMT400 350 suburban for this diesel beauty. I've wanted one of these since my first truck, a 1992 K1500 HD ext cab long box in 2-tone dark gray and silver.
The plan is to build a custom slide-in camper and otherwise use this as a daily and for fire road exploring.
So far the plan is to put a better interior in it, possibly seats from a GMT900 or k2xx on some custom brackets. It could use a little bodywork, I'll try and tackle rust but not dents and give it new rockerguard and factory fender flares on the rear. It was a former 3500 chassis cab and the previous owner put a nearly colour matched scrapyard bed on it. It has no rear bumper so I plan on building one of those old forestry style rear toolbox bumpers. With the camper or my house trailer I will need tow mirrors so it will be getting west coast style with the chrome tube arms like an old Peterbilt. I will probably build a moose bumper by bolting push blocks to the factory bumper and welding cross bars and headlight protectors to the blocks.
Anyone have other suggestions?
