Quick question regarding Voltage Drop and Wire Gauge for long runs
I've been looking into voltage drop thresholds for a project recently. We usually aim for a maximum of 3% drop for branch circuits to keep everything running efficiently and safely. I was crunching some numbers on AWG sizes—specifically how stepping up from 14AWG to 12AWG makes a massive difference over 100ft+ runs.
Curious to hear from the pros here: Do you usually stick strictly to the 3% rule for residential setups, or do you find yourselves over-specifying the wire gauge more often than not just to be safe? Also, any specific brands or types of heavy-duty cords you’ve found that hold up best against heat buildup in these scenarios?
