He more than proved it in The Gentleman. He doesn’t just have more than enough acting ability. He has the looks, the charisma, the age, and even the voice. He has a great masculine athletic build, his delivery with one-liners like a Bond character is on key. His voice is great, he’s done a lot of voice acting because it’s so good. It’s true he has Greek roots but it doesn’t matter. He’s still a full Brit. I truly don’t see a better candidate than him anywhere. I am aware he has been averse to it publicly, saying they should do something different, but that could just be a smokescreen. He IS something different. He’s Greek after all. He has said his friends joke and call him “Bondopolis”.
