Am I being scammed?
Recently, I decided to go back to Planet Fitness since it’s the closest 24 hour gym near me. I lost a considerable amount of weight about 2-3 years ago but I’ve been slacking on my workouts at home due to my work schedule and I think I’d be more consistent if I go to the gym. Before I started my weight loss journey, I tried to start at PF and only went in, took my picture, and never came back again. I remembered doing this at one location near me before that location moved even closer to my home(I know, this made it easier but laziness won at that time). Anyways, I did this pre-pandemic. The location moved closer to my home in 2022. After I was charged $204, I tried to cancel my account and was told I had to come into do so. I honestly can’t remember if I did or not…
Anyways, yesterday, I received a text from the assistant manager of the branch near my home and he said that I carried a balance of $251 and he sent a picture of my old account and said that I came in 2022 and took a picture (from the picture, I had on a mask so I’m sure it was 2022). He said,”if you can work something out for me, I’ll put the odds in your favor”. He said he could provide the invoices as well but that they’d have to cancel my account until the old balance has been rectified. When I asked how, he said that he could settle the account for $75 and clear the remainder and that he was leaving the gym at 5pm so if I couldn’t make it there by then, he’ll pay the $75 for me and notate my account and I could cashapp, Zelle etc. I told him to just cancel my account then because I was feeling pressured to do this and because during my email search to verify what he was saying, I got several emails in 2022 from PF saying that I could clear my balance if I come back. He said that this could negatively impact my credit after 5 years and that most people don’t know that. I confirmed I still wanted to cancel and he asked me for my consent to cancel. I never received an email for cancellation or anything else. My account still looks active on the app. Has this gal to anyone else?
