I want to see if there are any other data scientists in the group who can help. I spent six years at one of the most successful e-commerce startups in Canada helping them scale from a small to very large business. I am a senior data scientist and I spent over ten years building actual hard core solutions. I quit my job in March to start on my own, I had done consulting before in 2018 and picking up clients was pretty easy back then. Now in 2026 there are non technical people from all walks of life ranging from high school students to retirees presenting themselves as AI experts and the market is drowning in the noise. The average customer cannot tell a data scientist with 10 years experience from the less rigorous variety, I am really at a loss. Two months in and no sales at all like the market is completely swamped with noise. I spent so much time hoping to start on my own and I don't want to fail but without any business I can't see how I will make it work. I had some Reddit guys reach out previously but they didn't show up to the meeting. I literally could survive on two or three micro customers of sub $5k a month but I cannot find even one. I have rebuilt my site twice and I have pitched about 150 people ranging from CMOs to COOs nothing works. I even ran Facebook ads out of desperation trying to offer various services on the cheap, nothing works. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
