CompE freshman here wrapping up my first year. Trying to figure out where to knock out linear algebra this summer. Cost isn’t really the deciding factor for me — I care more about actually learning the material well and getting a solid grade, since I know LA shows up everywhere later (signals, ML, controls, basically all the fun stuff).
Options on the table:
• Take it at VT (online or in-person summer session)
• Knock it out at a NOVA / community college and transfer the credit
For those who’ve done either:
• How brutal is the VT summer pace? Is the rigor worth it long-term or does the compressed timeline kill you?
• If you went the CC route, did you feel underprepared when later ECE/math classes hit (DiffEq, signals, etc.)?
• Any specific profs at VT to chase or avoid for summer LA?
Not trying to cheese an easy A- I genuinely want to be solid at this stuff. Just don’t know if VT’s version is meaningfully better learning-wise or if a good CC instructor + self-study covers the same ground. Appreciate any input.
