My (21F) boyfriend (21M) has just started a new job 8.5 hours up north. He is working onna construction site so long hours, yet some days they dont work and just chill at the house. Before he went up, he promised that he was only going to drink on weekends, was going to facetime me atleast 2 times a week, and was going to be more productive, workout everyday, and come home “shredded”. To him his body is very important and even got upset with me at a point when i started to gain a little bit of weight, said that he wants to be with someone who prioritizes fitness. Since hes started this job(little under a month) he has been drinking every single day. Started with just a few beers after work on the site which i understood but still pushed for him to follow through with his goals and only drink on weekends. To now getting hammered everyday to the point he falls asleep and forgets to say goodnight. The guys hes working with are 100% alcoholics, I had an alcoholic father so i almost have a sense with those things and from meeting them i could tell instantly just by their look and the way they speak. It’s quite triggering to me seeing the guy i love not follow through with what he said and starting a really bad pattern that can lead to very bad things down the line. Whenever i bring anything up he just says “theres nothing else to do up here” which i understand hes literally in a forest pretty much, but he hasnt worked out once and i try to motivate him to do other things than drink w his buddies but all i get is push back. He also hates facetiming me its like a chore to him and i have to beg, he says we text all day theres nothing to talk about, and he comes home every 10 days so hes like we cant facetime what will we have to talk about when hes home. I dont really know how to communicate to him in a kind but also stern manner because i dont want him to fuck up his life forever and i feel like the men he works with are going to ruin him. How can i bring this up in a better way and not start an argument??
