I just enlisted as an 88mike. I'm in school, about 2 years away from getting my bachelor's degree. I got a 95 on the asvab and perfect medical but I chose 88m because my recruiter told me they are very likely to actually do their jobs and I feel like if I'm sitting around I'll get bored. I'm 22M, and joined to pay for the rest of my tuition and because I've always felt a calling to serve others, also I want to work in federal law enforcement once I have my degree and military experience is a plus.
I go to BCT->AIT in Sept. Now I'm having second thoughts about the MOS I chose...my friends who have been/are active duty told me that it's not challenging and that there's not room for growth. I don't know if that is true and I mean absolutely no disrespect, that's just what I've been told and now I'm freaking out. Realistically will I be stuck doing something mundane for the next 6 years of my life? Is it common and easy to change from 88m to something else? I'm looking at aviation jobs and those seem pretty sick. If I hate my life doing 88m, is it realistic that after a couple years I can reclass to that?
Also everyone and their mom is telling me once I get my degree to apply for OCS. To do that do I have to wait until my contract is over and reenlist? What abt WOCS? After how many years can I apply for that? If I wanted to do 153a, would 88m look bad on my packet?
thanks in advance I truly appreciate any insight. Shoulda done my research ahead of time but here we are. I'm in Cali in case that's relevant to anyone
