My friend has been telling people we’re dating for years; how do I tell him to stop
Me and this friend are really close! We’ve been friends since sophomore year of high school, and I’m currently a sophomore in college.
In high school, my friend wasn’t out of the closet, and to keep his parents off his back he said that I was his girlfriend and I allowed it.
Recently I found out that he told his other friends, and co-workers that I’m his girlfriend and has been keeping this facade up. He makes jokes about us having a family, and making me pregnant and I used to laugh but for some reason now I don’t like it. I asked him to stop with the pregnancy jokes and he didn’t but I ignored it and I don’t play along now.
Finding out that he’s been telling others that we’re dating tho, I think only bothers me because I thought that was something that ended with us in high-school. Not to mention it was only supposed to be to his parents, so I don’t see why he’s telling his friends and co-workers.
There’s honestly a bit more to the story but I plan on asking him to stop this weekend. I’m scared he’s going to be upset so I was hoping I could get advice on how to say it nicely, I guess?
