I have big problems getting my first layer dialed in properly when it is covering the whole plate. I have a QIDI Q1 Pro and did a proper platform calibration right before this print until SCREWS_TILT_CALCULATE showed me that I should not adjust any of the points anymore. Then I started this print of a single layer with PLA at 0.20mm and a .4 nozzle. I used the controls to fine-tune the z offset when it started printing (in the lower left corner of the picture). I use filament from dasfilament.de. Bed temperature is 60°C and the printing temperature is 220° at the first layer, which works fine with this filament when the print is only in the middle section of the bed. Print speed and retraction are at standard and should not matter for this problem.

I do not understand how single islands on this print can be so bad when right around them the z offset and bed leveling are ok.

I'm a bit desperate now and would be happy about any help or hints. Thank you!

After repairing my Q1 Pro with parts sent by QIDI (a piezo element was damaged) I performed a platform calibration and realised I still do not understand a few things about the printer. May I ask for your help, please?

  • When I do a mesh calibration in the "tune" tab of the Klipper web interface I can save the mesh as default or with a name. However, when I print something the printer will do another mesh probe, anyway. Is there a point in doing the calibration in the tune tab? Is there a way to use one of the saved meshes as default and not have it done automatically? If yes, should I do this or rather not?
  • I do not really get how z-offset is saved. Am I supposed to manually change the z-offset at the beginning of every print? The only place I know where I can set the z-offset is at the beginning of the platform calibration. If I am supposed to change the z-offset manually at the beginning of every print, how do I know what to choose? If the z-offset works well I usually can see it after the full first layer, before that is not finished I will not know if problems come at some point close to the edge of the printing space. And when it is finished it is too late.

Thanks and regards!

After a while of not using OrcaSlicer on Linux since I had no 3D rendering in the preview windows I read that my problem got fixed. When I started the old OrcaSlicer flatpak it told me to update or rather install the new version with

flatpak install flathub com.orcaslicer.OrcaSlicer

I did this and now I have two versions installed:

OrcaSlicer com.orcaslicer.OrcaSlicer 2.3.2 stable flathub system
OrcaSlicer io.github.softfever.OrcaSlicer 2.0.0-951fc8e master orcaslicer-origin system

I see that they come from different sources. Has this been changed in the meantime and is the new version the official one? Just want to be sure since I think I remember a problem with unofficial versions trying to get people to install it some time ago.
