What information should a recovering drug addict give a dentist and can I request a non "mind altering" option for anesthesia?
Perhaps not the best phrasing in the title but I'm currently recovering from a marijuana addiction. I know it's not as severe as a lot of other addictions but it has caused various health issues including some difficulties breathing and regular chest pains and heart palpations. My teeth are rotting out and I will likely need extensive work done and I'm a bit anxious about how I will respond physically and mentally to any potential anesthesia.
My biggest worry is something like laughing gas. Marijuana has messed with my head beyond belief and I cant stand the idea of taking anything else that might do the same, even though I know the odds of a bad response are low. I read that you can request other options but they also state that you will need to give the anesthesia time to wear off afterwards which sounds like the same sort of effect I'm trying to avoid. Even something that just leaves you "woozy" afterwards is worrying because that's the exact same phrasing I've used to describe being high in the past and I know how that turned out.
Also (please feel free to ignore this part of the question if it's not allowed) is there anything extra I need to take into account if I'm going through the NHS? Are there types of anesthesia that won't be an option or anything?
