Have you seen that movie, The Revenant?
There is a quote that's stuck in my mind... I'm curious if there's one quote stuck in your memory also. If so, what is it?
This quote comes to mind as I sit across from my dying father, who seems to believe his continued survival is evidence that he's a hero faced with an epic challenge, and we're all blessed to be in the presence of his greatness. He seems to feel that, as a favor to us, it's his duty to point out every way in which our imperfect efforts fail to fulfill his needs and desires, as he destroys his family's relationships, and drains the time, energy, and money from everyone around him.
I feel like I can't be the only person who thinks of this quote...
E2A:
Apologies... I wasn't trying to be a tease. I really thought someone might have a similar recollection and feeling. This might be kinda dark... or, depending on your disposition, I could see how this might even be offensive... It's a little unsettling that I find myself empathizing with the bad guy.. But, I expect some of you can relate.
In the middle third of the movie, in the wake of the bear attack, the group has to leave the injured Glass behind. Fitzgerald volunteers to stay behind with Glass and Hawk. Shortly thereafter, Fitzgerald is talking to Glass, trying to convince him that, ostensibly, to save his son, Glass should allow Fitzgerald to kill him. Fitzgerald's line in that scene that sticks in my memory is:
"I could do that for you."
