Gunnar has a lower OBP than Colton Cowser despite always batting in front of another frightening hitter(Adley, Alonso, Ward). He has the 5th most strikeouts or any batter in the MLB right now. He has the most strikeouts on our team by an insane margin.

Every leadership conversation on the team surrounds Adley and Alonso. Yet every “we can’t afford this guy” conversation is about Gunnar. Gunnar should not be in any conversations for a big extension right now.

I was watching the Mortal Kombat(2021) movie last night and it occurred to me that this is a massive missed opportunity. We’ve tried a few times now to make Mortal Kombat work in 90-100 minutes and it just doesn’t quite happen. At best the fight scenes are fun and the characters are campy enough to survive cult classic status.

It’s a franchise that spans decades with fans of all ages, but that isn’t why it would be successful. There is an ABSURD amount of lore around this franchise from warring families, fighting realms, unique back stories, and character rivalries. The big bads are varied and legitimately interesting. It also has the fun part of characters with super powers without falling into overdone superhero tropes.

Imagine a Game of Thrones style show that centers around the Mortal Kombat tournaments. Ample time to develop and create attachment to the characters/backstories. Every episode would have an easy excuse for epic fights without feeling forced. Plenty of new characters to introduce over seasons. Beloved characters and hated villains can die in brutal, memorable ways. New characters are introduced with unique storylines every season. In some cases, characters come back from the dead or their persona is taken on by a new generation.

I’m definitely not a Mortal Kombat super fan but I would watch the shit out of this show.
