Choosing a bike!
Just following the sidebar questions
Your level of experience with cycling:
- Very little realistically. Have not biked regularly since I was a kid (almost 30 now lol)
What's your price range, and have you considered second hand?
- 500-1000k$ CAD. Not against secondhand, would need to learn more about what I'm looking for though. I don't mind having to work on the bike. I work on my own cars, a bike should be easy? Right? IDK lol
What's your intention with the bike - commuting, fitness, touring, sport, etc?
- Both commute and fitness. Also hopefully generally for pleasure
How far will you be riding, and how often?
- Current plan to gym is ~4km twice a week. Then hopefully I can ride to work which is ~10km mon-fri.
Riding conditions: roads, pavement, trails, single-track, off-road? Flat or hilly? Traffic and weather.
- Mostly roads and pavement. I would like to not be afraid to go onto grass/dirt with a bike that's too city oriented. I'd avoid rain just cause that sounds like no fun but shit happens sometimes.
Your location (even approximate) can help other locals familiar with your conditions, too.
- Quebec, Canada.
A bit about yourself: height, weight, and level of fitness can all help people understand your needs better.
- I guess 5'9 maybe 140. I say gym but that's rock climbing/bouldering. Not quite leg exercises nor is it cardio (hence my desire to start biking).
Some extra info: I did try get into cycling back around 2022 and bought a Triban something with Shimano gears (that's all I remember) and damn I was super uncomfortable. Maybe size? The seat sucked, I don't know why I didn't just buy a seat. My ass hurt so bad. Resold it.
Thanks for any help!
