Hello. My family is currently dealing with a surprise APS investigation. The elderly family member is an 89 year old male who has been hospitalized from February 2nd multiple times. The original hospitalization was severe sepsis due to a UTI caused by a full bladder, caused by an enlarged prostate. After that hospital stay he was hospitalized multiple times due to the infections coming back. The doctors stated that it's just because of how sick he was it was going to be hard for him to fully recover. He spent 20ish days in a physical rehab facility and then came home. While in the hospital he suffered severe delusions.

Since being home he has recovered significantly, his mental state is good (after adding a dementia medication), he's eating, leaving the house. Things are almost back to normal. Except for he has had frequent trips to the emergency room due to issues with his catheter. When he first came home he would accidentally tug on it and caused extreme bleeding. But that has stopped and now he only has to go if it clots over, which has only happened twice.

He has multiple home health nurses that visit him multiple times a week, as well as the family takes turns staying with him, including at night. He also lives with his sister. He is never alone, and is cared for immensely.

APS showed up for their surprise visit while my mother (his main caregiver) was at the grocery store so it was only his sister with him. The house isn't the best due to an elderly landlord, but it isn't a slum either.

We as his family are just concerned about why this investigation was opened and what to expect during it?

Thank you all.

Edit: I just saw his business card and the guy is from the local fire department. It says he's the community paramedic?
