My first introduction to BOTC was the No Rolls Barred YouTube channel games. They would have players breakout into smaller group chats during the day.
Then I played several games online in 2024. The online version at the time had a feature for private game chats during the day phase as well.
But as I was reading the rule book, it says on page 14:
“Players may talk to the group, whisper to each other, or even leave their seats to talk in secret with other players. Encourage them to stay in the circle as they’re doing this though.”
I’m storytelling my first game in-person tomorrow and wanted to know how storytellers encourage their players to chat. What are your reasons for your style?
In the trailer we see two characters carrying logs. Each character is a different species, and each have their own character clipping into the log; the bear’s weapon handle clips into the log and the raccoon’s hand clips into the log. This makes me think carrying logs is a core mechanic in the game.
As an avid survival/crafting player, this gets me excited because it fosters what I call emergent experiences.
If players can’t place large/heavy items in their inventories, then it means resource hauls and building staging will emerge in play.
Imagine you and your friends want to build a base. You’ll have to start by chopping down trees, which drop logs to the ground. Then you’ll have to carry those logs to the build site where you’ll either mill them down into planks with a crafting station, or stage them within proximity to build walls, etc.
But what if the distance from a forest to your base site is really far? You may have to craft a wagon, hitch an animal to it, then load logs into the wagon to be hauled over to the build site. This would be a resource haul: a mini adventure. Two friends could take the wagon to fetch wood, while other friends continue prepping the base site.
The No Man’s Sky Remnant Update may have been a test for this very thing.
A big question the trailer has left me with, is whether the stones used by the builder are appearing from their inventory, or if they’re being pulled up from a pile on the ground. I’ve replayed the video at 0.25x speed many times and can’t tell for sure. If there is a pile of stone behind the hut, and the builder is pulling those stones up via proximity, then my theory might be true.
A progression experience that might occur with these mechanics is that you have to use wood to build a medieval crane or a wheel barrow which can then be used to pickup stones from a quarry you dig. You load them into a wagon, then haul them to your build site.
What do you guys think?
My theory on the two massive spheres we see in the trailer is that they act as archives and anomalies from NMS, all in one.
Each region on the planet will probably have a sphere in it. We’ll start the game in a random, undiscovered region and the main quest will take us towards the sphere of that region. When we enter, there will probably be some kind of magical image of the whole planet. We’ll be able to upload the info we have on our region, including “Discovering it” and naming it. Then we can type in the coordinates of a friend’s region and be teleported there.
So these massive spheres will likely be the map & teleportation hubs of the game.

I’ve been hopping around various video game YouTube channels to get a wide view of the industry. And it’s made me think LNF probably won’t release until 2027 or 2028.
In no particular order, here are the three factors that make me think this:
GTA VI: Although both LNF and GTA6 have a ton of hype, it’s safe to say there’s more hype surrounding GTA6. I don’t think GTA6 releasing this year would play a major factor in Hello Games deciding whether to postpone their launch of LNF, but I’m sure it plays *some* role in their decision making. Especially after they experienced so much success from the NMS hype. Regardless of NMS’s launch issues, I’m sure hanging out to polish LNF until 2027 would be a smart choice since a huge swath of gamers will be obsessed with GTA6 for months.
Next Gen Consoles: Hello Games prides itself on being able to make NMS playable on all consoles, even the Switch. I’m sure PlayStation 6 and Project Helix (Xbox) having release windows in 2027/2028 impacts HG’s launch plans. It would be silly to miss the opportunity to reach new console owners with LNF if they’re ready for release by then. Especially since the AAA market is absolutely desert dry of content. Sony and Microsoft will be desperate to advertise LNF as an MMO-style game on their platforms.
No Mans Sky 10th Anniversary: Hello Games loves NMS. They love working on it and they’re incredibly proud of it as their flagship title. I don’t think HG will sour No Mans Sky’s 10th anniversary with a LNF trailer or release date drop or anything. I imagine they will celebrate NMS for at least all of Q3-2026. If we hear something about LNF this year, it’ll probably be in some big NMS update trailer. If they release a big update around August then I hope it has some LNF commentary in the trailer.
I want to play Light No Fire so badly with my friends. But I think it’s good to set realistic expectations. When do you guys think it will release?
