Stang or Jag for Indie/Post Rock/Ambient

I want to play stuff like Death Cab, Mogwai, Explosions in the sky.... Want nice, round cleans, with the ability to get gritty and thick. Pedal board is under construction as we speak.

Which of these works best, and how much of the same ground do these two cover?

Stang or Jag for Indie/Post Rock/Ambient

I'm in the market for a short scale guitar. I have smaller hands, and I'm not really a big dude. That hasn't stopped me from playing anything I can get my hands on. I bought a JMJM a couple years ago, but I want to travel further down the offset road, and venture into short scale versions.

I'm looking to play stuff like Death Cab (Ben has a sig stang), Explosions in the Sky, Mogwai.... I want to be able to have the nice ringing cleans, but also get abrasive with it. I don't use the tremelo system very much on any guitar, so that's not a deal breaker.

I guess another question I have is whether or not these guitars cover a lot of the same ground?

Thanks for any help!

So, I'll try to be concise. I want to play some indie, post rock, punk, etc., and have some ambience. I guess not full-on, lost in the sauce, wook-level ambience, but be able to create some atmosphere. Think of how Death Cab can fill the room without getting off the rails. I also want the ability to get stoned and lose myself completely, and make my wife think I've melted into the floor once in awhile.

I have a JHS 3-series delay, already. I have their hall reverb, as well. I've been looking for a delay and a reverb pedal (buy once, cry once) that can be staples of my board. I would like to have an "always on" delay, that just adds a little depth to chords and such. If I use the 3-series for that, which delay pedal, and which reverb are best for this? I've looked at the Strymon Timeline and El Capistan, and really like both a lot. For Reverbs, I've really liked the Flint, and it seems like a classic. Would a combo of the El Cap/Flint be bpth practical for all uses, and still let me get off the rails a good bit when I want? I feel like a Big Sky is probably overkill on the reverb.

I guess I just need a little info on how certain pedals go together, what combos of delay and reverb pedals make the magic happen, and any other anecdotes you folks may have with your own experiences.

ALSO, I have a Helix LT that I don't really use a tonne, because I've moved to using my Super Crush 100 with an Orange 2x12. I'm finishing a long awaited pedalboard to play through it. I have an offer for a like-new HX Stomp and mint Strymon Timeline for it. What are your thoughts on that as a trade deal?

I appreciate any and all input/feedback on this. Just kinda workshopping....
