How do I stop noise and damage from my neighbour’s footballs?

We’ve lived in our house for a few years and got new neighbours around a couple of years ago.

Several items in our garden have been broken, including plants and decorations, by their footballs as they use full sized heavy ones

The noise is also incredibly loud. It gets kicked against our adjoining fence (which is right next to my living room window), and sometimes gets kicked against the wall itself. It shakes the walls and floors. This kid should get called up for the next World Cup.

We’ve spoken to them a few times and said we think it’s fab the kids want to play outside, but could they work with us to find a solution to dampen the hitting-the-fence noise and minimise it coming into our garden due to damage (I’m talking we have 5 balls come over within 10 minutes). I suggested some plants above the fence line, nets etc. To be diplomatic, this got me nowhere.

My question is: what could I do on my side to minimise the noise? I’ve already planted bushes that will grow to the size of the fence but these will take years. Would sticking anything on my side of the fence help? Any other ideas? I’m at a bit of a loss, and don’t want to move. Thanks!
