So I got an estimate for a prenatal CBC, varicella immune screen, prenatal panel, carrier screen, and prenatal risk screen with the hospital system my OB is under. They called me back with an estimate of $10k WITH INSURANCE and $8k for the cash price. The high price is due to the genetic screening.

First, I try getting my OB to send lab orders to Quest to see if it’s cheaper, and it’s still $4k self pay with them. I’m a travel nurse, and our insurance is trash with a veryyyyyy high deductible. My husband and I are moving back home at the end of this month, meaning I will have entirely different insurance coverage as I’m starting a new job with much better benefits. So there’s no need to meet the deductible for a policy I’ll no longer have very soon.

I called around to other clinics and landed on Natera for both genetic screens (Panorama/Horizon). I can pay $450 at the cash price, which is GREAT. I was under the impression I’d go to their lab near Seattle for the blood draw, but get a call today saying I’ll receive a kit in the mail tomorrow. I was told to take this kit to my OB office, have the doctor fill out some forms, draw the blood, send it back. OB office over the phone says they can’t draw my blood, only the lab can. Lab won’t do a courtesy draw even with orders. So now I have no idea where to get this blood drawn!!!!!!!!

I’ll get my basic labs done at Quest as the cash price is doable.

Anyone have a similar experience? I could use some insight and/or some good vibes 😂
